Carla Saulsbery

Carla has been a loyal and very dedicated employee of LSUHSC and now University Health for 30 + yrs.
She has headed up and grown the Occupational Therapy department providing acute care and out patient services and cover service areas of pediatrics, burns, orthopedics, neuro surge, MICU, SICU, cardiology, oncology, med surge and psychiatry. She works tirelessly promoting the Rehabilitation department as a whole, implementing positive growth and development of the entire OT, PT and Speech staff as well as creating a positive and uplifting environment for us to work in. In addition to all of her administrative duties of being a department supervisor, Carla is first a clinician , administering the best and highest quality patient care to all of her clients. Going above and beyond is just her nature, as she is also the secretary of the Percy R Johnson Burn Foundation, keeping the books, cleaning and upkeeping the Percy R Johnson Burn House which is used to house families of patients being treated in the burn center and maintaining the grounds of the burn house.
She promotes her profession by contributing to research projects in the areas of Occupational Therapy and she has collaborated with fellow Occupational Therapist, Shannon Abney in writing a chapter in a Physical Therapy text book that is used at the Allied School of Health Physical Therapy curriculum. Carla is also an adjunct faculty for the LSU school of Occupational Therapy, lecturing and providing splinting labs for the students. Carla coordinates with various Universities in and out of state , for providing student affiliation programs at University Health in which OT students can get the best possible clinical training in areas of acute care and out patient services as well as hand specialty training. She has been through all the changes of this hospital throughout her 30+ years of service, ups and downs, and has continuously promoted it and helped develop and grow it. Truly dedicated and unwavering support of her profession and her work place.
